Cooking in Brisbane

It is a tad expensive to be constantly eating out. The shops tend to close rather early especially the weekends and the closing hours are not consistent throughout the whole week. Thus, it is always a good option to cook. We had lots of fun at the supermarket, discussing about the dishes that we want to eat and thinking of what ingredients to get. We felt like a family thinking about the week’s worth of breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are several supermarkets that we can shop from. Coles and Aldi sells food items at relatively cheap prices, so we recommend getting your stuff from there. For us, the closest was Coles at Queen Street while Aldi was located at the West End, which needs a bus ride. ( Note: If you are going to buy groceries from Aldi, do remember to bring your own bags. They do not provide plastic bags!) If you ever feel slightly lazy or need your meat fix, we highly recommend getting the Roast Chicken from Woolworths for dinner. It costs $9 for the whole chicken! ...

Orientation at Griffith University

Date: 15 - 16 May 2018 Before we begin our IP, we had to go for an orientation programme at Griffith University, Mt Gravatt Campus. Luckily, the Translink website ( https://translink.com.au/plan-your-journey ) was really easy to navigate and we managed to find the right bus stop and the right bus to get on. The Translink website helps us to find the fastest way to get our destination depending on the time that we are living and it is usually accurate. It is also in our favour that the bus stops are close to our accommodation! A few stops later, we safely arrived at Mt Gravatt campus! We then met Dr Kay Hartwig, our Australian supervising professor, who gave us a quick tour of the campus. The campus was splendid (so was the Nathan campus, which we went later in the afternoon). Dr Kay explained that we had to prepare a practicum file that we need to bring to school. This is a similar practice back in Singapore. Dr Kay ran through the necessary documents that we need for practicum, ...

Student Accomdation in Brisbane

You might be asking, sure we are at Brisbane, but where are we staying? We stayed at StudentOne, which offers accommodations for students ( https://studentone.com/ ). It is located within the Central Business District of Brisbane, just a short distance away from the Central train station (if you are taking the train too). The accommodation building looked like a regular office building. And like any other office building, you need to get access. The main doors are locked at night and the weekends. They can only be opened if you have a student access card there or the friendly receptionist sees you. A view of the our lovely apartment @ StudentOne. It might seem dark behind, but in the day, the view from our apartment can be quite splendid. After settling the administrative details, we went to our apartment and we were simply delighted by what we saw. Everything looked very sleek and we had a good view of the city from our living room windows, almost like a condominium unit. ...
